Wastewater Treatment Plant
All industrial wastewater generated in our paper machines, stock preparation, and chemical preparation departments is collected within the stock preparation department and transferred to the wastewater treatment plant after passing through a pre-filtration system.
The treatment plant consists of a total of six main units: the PM3 Treatment Plant, PM4 Treatment Plant, PM5 Treatment Plant, Reuse-1, Reuse-2, and the Desulfurization and Gas Plant.
Approximately 60% of the wastewater treated through conventional treatment processes in the PM3, PM4, and PM5 Treatment Plants is recovered and reused in the stock preparation process. The remaining portion is subjected to advanced treatment at the Reuse-1 facility and then utilized as fresh water in the production process. At the Reuse-2 facility, concentrated water from Reuse-1 is further treated to produce fresh water for same purpose. Through Reuse plants, water recovery rates are increased, demonstrating an environmentally friendly approach.
At our Modern Karton Çorlu Plant, great importance is placed on energy efficiency initiatives. Within this framework, approximately 45,000 m³ of biogas is produced daily through anaerobic reactors located in the PM3, PM4, and PM5 Treatment Plants. The generated biogas is utilized as biofuel at the MEDCEM facility within the Eren Group to produce energy. In addition, rejects generated during the production process that cannot be reused, as well as treatment sludge produced at the wastewater treatment plants, are sent to the Solid Waste Incineration Plant located at the MEDCEM facility.
Beyond wastewater treatment, the conversion of biogas and treatment sludge into energy, the continuous improvement of water recovery and reuse rates, and the source-based seperation of solid wastes and management of waste under the Zero Waste Certificate demonstrate our integrated approach to sustainability, water and wastewater, waste, energy, and environmental management.
